Her eyes visualize the betrayal and meanwhile she is expressing her repulsion with her action. This painting represents the personal fight of a young woman overcoming her fears imposed by society.

The idealized figure of Jesus, symbol of generosity, piety, respect and love, is exchanged for a monkey, reminding us what we really are and where we come from, putting into question our behaviour and trying to make us more aware of the effects of our actions.

"Saint Dymphna & The Holy Carrot"

According to the Christian tradition, Saint Dymphna lived in the 7th century and was the daughter of a pagan Irish king and his Christian wife. She was murdered by her father. This conflict of sons and daughters with paternal authority happens globally leaving a strong mark on their lives.
